CURRICULUM
The Principle:
The curriculum is based on the principle that each student is an individual and should be given every possible opportunity for education appropriate to their needs and for personal, social, physical and emotional development.
The curriculum seeks to consider each student as a whole, taking into account his/her cultural and life experiences.
It is our intention that each student shall acquire knowledge, concepts, skills, attitudes and behavior patterns that will increase his/her independence.
How We Work:
The following curriculum explains the way in which Dubai Center for Special Needs works and what we hope to achieve through our education and therapy programs:
• Developmental of Social and Emotional Skills: Through class work, daily assemblies, educational field trips and exchange programs with other institutions.
• Pre-Vocational Activities: Through training activities at the Center and work placements at companies throughout the community, students from our Pre-Vocational Stream are exposed to practical day-to-day real life experiences and learn skills that will hopefully help them to secure employment and achieve their independence and integration into society.
• Self-Help Skills: From making their own snack to tidying up their surroundings (and everything in between), students are encouraged to help themselves thus becoming more independent and self-reliant.
• Cognitive Development: Is nurtured through academic and classroom activities.
• Creative Arts: Promote self-concept and self-esteem.
• Physical Activities: To promote physical fitness and teamwork include gym classes, sporting events, swimming, horse riding, sailing and ice-skating.
• Educational Field Trips: Give students valuable knowledge about a variety of topics as well as lessons in social interaction skills through real life experiences.
• Music / Drama / Play-Acting / Concerts: These activities promote speech and language development through real life experiences, while building on self-concept and confidence.
• Physiotherapy Sessions: Benefit students who are physically challenged, in individual and group sessions.
• Occupational Therapy Sessions: Teach and reinforce self-help skills, helping to make each student as independent as possible.
• Speech Therapy Sessions: Place emphasis on speech and language development through the use of advance techniques with support of the latest speech and language technological equipment.
• Regular Pediatrician visits: Provide health care and nutritional guidance, all crucial to the students’ all round development-enabling the early detection of problems.
• Regular Dental Hygiene Check-ups: Teach the students the importance of good dental hygiene and help to maintain our students’ bright healthy smiles.
